Keyword bookmarklet updated

If you've downloaded the keyword bookmarklet already to generate keyword and their bid prices, using Google keyword tool, please replace it with this one. Main improvements:

  • Each keyword has a direct link to Google Trends and the free version of Wordtracker (immediately displaying results for this specific keyword)
  • Table is sortable alphabetically and by keyword price. Be warned though that all sorting is done in javascript, client-side. In case of long lists, it may be necessary to increase the javascript time-out. If you're using Firefox, use these instructions.

More features are coming - I will keep you updated.

Actually, you don't need to

Actually, you don't need to download it. Just drag it to your toolbar (Firefox) or add to Favorites (IE) and then click it whenever you're on a page that you want to use as a source.

Thanks.

You don't need to download

You don't need to download anything. Just drag the link provided in the post above (read carefully, pls) to your toolbar or right-click on it and add it to you bookmarks. Then, whenever you're on any page you want to use as your source, just click on that bookmark.

More on my error messages

It seems that if it fails the first time, it quite often (but not always) succeeds the second time. Maybe that gives you a clue as to what is going on here...

Gary

Gary, thanks for your

Gary, thanks for your feedback. Yes, it may happen that the tool sometimes fails. This is because I had to balance the maximum time it waits for results and the general performance. If Google keyword tool is sometimes to slow th respond, then the script gets no input to process.

The first version was really a very quick hack, done maybe in 30 minutes. So it actually had no error checking. I've added a simple check to display a more elegant message if no results are fetched, but this is definitely still very much in progress.

Anyway, if it fails once, just try refreshing the page - it should work.

Getting error messages

Neat tool. And big thanks for sharing it. So far, however, I've had more error messages than successful uses of it. The error msg is:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /tools/parser/getresults.php on line 57

And it's the same whether using Firefox or IE. Yes, I followed the special Firefox instruction to increase the timeout.

Hopefully you've got some good news on this issue.

BTW, I appreciate the content at your site. Great stuff, freely shared.

How many searches are needed

So I thought your post on profitable niches in 10 minutes was simple and clever and so of course I had to try it out for myself. However, I've had 2 blogs up for a couple of weeks now and they both have brought in no revenue and only maybe 3 or 4 page views. I wonder if it's the search volume. How many searches a day (on Wordtracker) do you think is enough to bother making a blog and a few posts, 10, 20, 100? I think mine both got less than 20 a day. Plus, how do you plan on showing up near the top of search results because if a user types in the search query without quotes then a lot more pages come up than if you use quotes. Do you have some kind of traffic network that will get your niche blogs to show up near the top of the search results or do you just rely on the few people that type searches with quotes?

Thanks!

Joel - unfortunately, having

Joel - unfortunately, having good keywords is just the first step. If you're now showing near the top for your selected phrases, then the search numbers are really irrelevant.

What you really need after creating your content is to work on your traffic, which requires off-site efforts, i.e. incoming links. By far the easiest way that I would suggest (although time consuming) is writing some articles and submitting them to article directories with keyword-reach backlinks to your site.
